  • A Container Terminal with 3 berths
  • A Multipurpose Terminal with 2 berths
  • A Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) Terminal
  • A proposed Liquid Cargo Handling Terminal

This diversified terminal setup is designed to handle containerized cargo, bulk goods, vehicles, and liquid cargo, making Bhavnagar Port a versatile logistics hub.

Role of CONCOR as Container Terminal Operator

Under the MoU, CONCOR will serve as the Container Terminal Operator, responsible for operations, management, and marketing of the terminal. This strategic expansion marks CONCOR’s entry into port operations, complementing its expertise in rail-linked container transport and logistics.

Sh. Sanjay Swarup, CMD of CONCOR, emphasized that this collaboration will add significant value to customers and strengthen CONCOR’s leadership in the logistics sector. He also noted that the terminal will provide advanced facilities for faster cargo handling and improved service quality.

Infrastructure and Facilities at the Container Terminal

The container terminal at Bhavnagar Port will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure:

  • Advanced cranes and automated cargo handling systems
  • Spacious storage yards for containerized cargo
  • Efficient multipurpose berths for bulk and general cargo
  • A dedicated Ro-Ro terminal for vehicle transport
  • A proposed liquid cargo terminal for chemicals and petroleum

These facilities aim to streamline logistics operations for Central Gujarat, the Dholera Industrial Belt, and extend services to the National Capital Region (NCR).

Impact on Trade and Industrial Growth

Experts highlight that the container terminal at Bhavnagar Port will fill critical infrastructure gaps in Gujarat’s logistics sector. With rising industrial activity in Dholera and increasing trade volumes, the terminal will improve supply chain efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and enhance connectivity between inland industrial hubs and global maritime routes.

The terminal’s operations are also expected to attract private investments in warehousing, cold storage, and freight forwarding services, contributing to regional economic development.

Employment and Economic Benefits

The development of Bhavnagar Port will create thousands of jobs across construction, operations, logistics, and support services. By providing modern infrastructure and specialized cargo handling, the project will foster local entrepreneurship and industrial growth.

Strategic Importance for India’s Maritime Vision

This port development aligns with India’s Sagarmala initiative, which emphasizes port-led trade, infrastructure modernization, and integration with inland transport networks. By enhancing cargo handling efficiency and connectivity, the container terminal at Bhavnagar Port will play a key role in India’s trade competitiveness.
