Passenger Convenience and Rail Efficiency

Western Railway has been consistently working to enhance passenger comfort and operational efficiency. One of its biggest achievements has been the closure of most level crossings—both interlocked and non-interlocked—across all six divisions.

The elimination of level crossings offers several benefits:

  • Improved road and rail safety
  • Fewer accidents
  • Reduced traffic congestion
  • Faster train operations
  • Better punctuality
  • Overall smoother travel experience

With such efforts, the Bhavnagar–Sabarmati Intercity train passengers can expect not only more space but also safer and more efficient travel conditions.

The “Phatak Mukt Gujarat” Initiative

As part of the ongoing infrastructure push, the Railway Board has approved projects worth nearly ₹350 crore under the “Phatak Mukt Gujarat” campaign. The focus is on replacing level crossings with modern structures like:

  • Limited Height Subways (LHS)
  • Road Under Bridges (RUBs)
  • Other structural developments

Key sections to undergo this transformation include Dhola–Rajula, Rajula–Mahuva, Kanalus–Porbandar, Jetalsar–Vansjaliya, Rajkot–Jetalsar, Surendranagar–Dhola, and Sabarmati–Botad.

Currently, Bhavnagar Division already has 238 subways and road under bridges, but tenders have been issued for 40 new RUBs to further improve safety and traffic flow. Work is expected to begin shortly.

Relief for Daily Travelers

The introduction of additional general coaches will directly benefit daily commuters such as office-goers, students, and small traders who rely on the Bhavnagar–Sabarmati Intercity train. General coaches are the most in-demand, and with extra seating capacity, passengers can expect less crowding and a more comfortable journey.

The parallel progress in building underpasses and bridges will also ensure fewer delays, smoother traffic flow, and improved safety at crossings. This dual approach of adding coaches and upgrading infrastructure shows the railway’s commitment to addressing both short-term and long-term passenger needs.
